Summer Piano Lesson Special!

Jeannine is offering lessons at a special summer price of just $15 per lesson AND each child who begins lessons this summer will also have the option of attending a series of FREE GROUP PIANO CLASSES to be scheduled later in the summer! The lessons are for beginning piano students, ages 5-10, and will take place in the Jeannine's South Windsor home. Your first lesson is always FREE!




Early Childhood Music and Movement Classes

Held at the Footloose Dance Academy on Sullivan Avenue in South Windsor, these classes are for children ages 6 months to 5 years with a parent or other caregiver. The curriculum is based on the First Steps in Music curriculum by John M. Feierabend, Ph.D.

Summer Session, 2008:
Infant/Toddler classes will be held on Friday mornings from 9:45-10:30.
Preschool Classes will be held on Friday mornings from 10:45-11:30.

Nursery/Preschool class curriculum components include:

Pitch Exploration: The teacher models vocal sounds, using various motivational props, which the children imitate to warm up singing voices.

Echo and Call and Response Songs: The teacher sings part of a song and the children echo a phrase or sing a response, sometimes taking turns individually.

Movement Exploration: The teacher leads the children in exploratory choreographed and free movement with and without recorded music.

Finger Plays: The teacher leads the children in songs that have motions for hands and fingers.

Action Songs: The teacher leads the children in songs that have motions for the whole body.

Simple Circles: The teacher the children in songs that have games or dances in circles- either stationary or traveling.

Beat Motions (Child initiated): Each child performs a beat on an instrument or his/her body as the teacher sings a song or speaks a rhyme to the child's beat.

Beat Motions (Teacher initiated): The teacher leads the children in performing a beat on their bodies or instruments to a song or rhyme.

Beat Motions with Recordings: The teacher leads the children as they walk, tap, or move otherwise to the beat of recorded music. Props are sometimes used to add expressivity or excitement.

Simple Songs: The teacher models songs with a limited tonal range, which the children learn to sing independently.

Songtales: The teacher sings a story song for the class.
